Non-Emergency Medical Transportation Services
Whatever level of mobility support your loved one needs, we have the right vehicle, the right equipment, and the right driver for the trip.
Capital Area Transport Service provides non-emergency wheelchair and medical transportation across Maryland, DC, and Northern Virginia. Below is what we offer. If you’re not sure which service fits your situation, call us at 301-530-5566 and we’ll walk you through it.
Wheelchair Transportation
Our core service. Riders stay seated in their wheelchair from the moment we arrive at pickup until we deliver them to their destination. No awkward transfers, no being lifted in and out of seats.
Our vans are equipped with ramps and proper securement systems. Every chair is locked down properly before we move.
If your loved one doesn’t have their own wheelchair, we can provide one per request.
Best for: Anyone who uses a wheelchair full-time or part-time, including riders recovering from surgery, managing chronic conditions, or attending ongoing treatments like dialysis.
Ambulatory Transportation
For riders who can walk on their own or with light assistance and don’t need a wheelchair. Our drivers help with getting in and out of the vehicle, and walking into the destination if needed.
Best for: Seniors who are steady on their feet but appreciate the help, riders who use a cane or walker, or anyone who simply needs reliable, door-aware transportation.
Door-Through-Door Service
Curbside drop-off isn’t always enough. Our door-through-door service means we walk your loved one from the door of their home to the vehicle, and from the vehicle directly into the building at their destination, and back.
Best for: Riders with dementia, low vision, or any condition that makes navigating unfamiliar spaces difficult. Also for facility-to-facility transfers where we coordinate the handoff at both ends.
Medical Transport
Non-emergency rides for medical purposes: appointments, treatments, follow-ups, and discharges. We’re a trusted partner for many local facilities and frequently transport patients home after surgery and anesthesia procedures.
We can wait at the appointment if needed. Flat-rate wait-and-return is available — call for pricing.
Best for: Dialysis runs, chemotherapy and radiation appointments, post-surgical pickups, hospital discharges, and any other medical visit where a regular ride won’t cut it.
